To me this seems to be a bit of crazy making because there’s way too much focus on getting rid of the FEAR.
This focus creates even more anxiety and resistance, instead of creating more space to open up to what FEAR has to teach us.
Let’s start using FEAR to our advantage and see what it has to tell us.
Before we get into the step-by-step process I use with myself and my clients, let’s explore FEAR a little bit more…
FEAR comes in so many flavors, textures and vibrations. Most times we’re not even aware that FEAR is fueling our choices directing us to not want things because it’s hidden. Basically there’s resistance to whatever it is we wish to create and we’re ignorant of how this informs our every step.
What are you living in FEAR of happening, doing or having right now in your life or business?
Maybe it’s one of these…
- Fear of failure
- Fear of rejection
- Fear of uncertainty
- Fear of being vulnerable
- Fear of letting go
- Fear of looking stupid
- Fear of change
- Fear of being hurt
- Fear of being judged
- Fear of not being worthy
- Fear of not getting it right or perfect
As a coach trainer this is what I find many new coaches experience FEAR with:
- Putting yourself out there
- Not being able to deliver results
- Feeling like a fraud or imposter
- What other people will think or say about you
- Not knowing if they can really help someone
Now let’s get our reframe FEAR party started!
What if FEAR is…
- Not the enemy?
- Wants us to know something?
- Is doing it’s J.O.B to protect us?
This is the practice I use to help me be present to feeling it as well as honoring where I am so I can move forward deliberately towards what I’m feeling afraid of.
To get the most out of this please give yourself about 10-20 min to do this practice, you may want to get quiet and do some deep breathing then ask yourself these questions to see what’s really going on.
First sit quietly and bring FEAR Closer, then Ask it What it Wants.
Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, tap your legs then ask yourself what FEAR wants.
See what comes up for you, allow it to be there and notice what you notice.
Then ask the following questions (you can write it if that feels good for you).
If FEAR could talk what would it say to you?
What is FEAR protecting you from?
Notice if there is a pattern here or a memory from your past popped into your head. Acknowledge it and see if this is blocking you from moving forward towards your goal and if being afraid is not present because it’s the past FEAR that is in your way.
Finally, take the time to love and forgive the part of you that is afraid.
Take the time to honor yourself, this part of you, for doing a good job and informing you along your journey.
